Effect of spinel content on slag attack resistance of high
High alumina refractory castables based on the Al 2 O 3-MgO-CaO diagram ternary system were prepared using tabular alumina white electrofused corundum calcined alumina synthetic spinel dead-burned magnesia dolomite and calcium aluminate cement as starting raw materials. Two kinds of slags with 9.02 and 4.14 CaO/SiO 2 ratios were studied for slag resistance by means of crucible tests.

Addition of CuO up to 2 wt. improved the hydration resistance but it was not significantly high in comparison to that of 1 wt. CuO. The use of a higher level of CuO in lime did not show any further improvement in hydration resistance. The CaO forms a low melting compound (2CaO.CuO) with CuO which helps liquid phase sintering of lime.
Chat OnlineCorrosion of refractories in lead smelting reactorsUBC
Corrosion of refractories by slag is a complex phenomenon which depending on the particular system involves many processes such as chemical wear (corrosion) and physical or mechanical wear (erosion) which may act synergistically. No single model can explain all cases of corrosion nor can it explain all corrosion mechanisms of a particular refractory in different environments but the
Chat OnlineMaterials Free Full-Text Improving Corrosion
The corrosion of refractories in contact with high temperature aluminum-magnesium alloys leads to contamination of the Al-Mg alloy products by solid impurities from degraded refractories. Where both the spinel and corundum phases form in the refractories cracks are generated and propagated by diffusion of molten Al-Mg resulting in severe corrosion.

The recycling options of spent MgO-C refractories from an electrical arc furnace (EAF) have been evaluated. The economic quality of spent refractories and products made from it the ease of implementation of a recycling practice and the interest of steel melt shops were considered. It was decided that the best option of most EAF shops would be to recycle spent MgO-C refractory as a

Corrosion is one of the most common wear mechanisms of refractories. Corrosive attacks lead to chemical and microstructural changes. Hot corrosion compromises chemical and/or physical interactions. Thus the process is complex and not yet fully understood. Currently corrosion is investigated post mortem by means of X-ray diffraction or scanning electron microscopy.
